The site, a hub that includes three buildings previously owned by Northface at Harrison and Gilman streets, will bring together hundreds of artists working collectively. On a recent tour, managing director Susan Medak said it was almost fate when the Gilman site became available and eventually was purchased in December 2011. “We’d been looking at the building across the street when we heard Ten Speed Press, who’d been bought by Random House, was moving out,” Medak said. It was an opportunity that couldn’t be passed up, even though at the time, “We didn’t fully realize how we’d use the building when we bought it,” Director of Development Lynn Komaromi admitted.
