Android Open Source & Compatibility Tech Lead Dan Morrill posted an explanation of sorts over in the Android Contributors Google Group. Here's the meat of his somewhat technical explanation. I could be wrong here, and we've reached out to Google for clarification, but it sounds to me that Google is blaming CDMA carriers like Verizon for ruining the Nexus soiree. There was a a theory floating around that this whole flap could have something to do with the lack of Google Wallet on the Verizon phone and a brewing rivalry with the carrier's own payments platform. That theory has since been debunked.
